You’ve always been able to collect info in your forms that isn’t listed in our form field types, such as “favourite color”: you just needed to assign a form field type that wasn’t being used.

That was confusing to a lot of people, and if you had a big form you may have run out of form fields. But now, we’ve added a custom form field input which you can use as many times as you want to collect all the info you need.

Setting Custom Form Fields at Account level

Custom fields set up at Account level will work with our form notification email system, but not HTML forms.

Here’s how:

Click ‘Account’ on the top-menu. Then navigate to the ‘Form Fields’ dashboard in the left-side menu. Select ‘Custom fields’ tab then click ‘Add’

We’ve made it so that the name you set for your custom field is used as the default query string parameter. So for example if your custom field is called ‘wizard’, and the data entered is “Magic”, it will look like this: “?wizard=Magic”.

To set custom field query string parameters at account level click on ‘edit’ for a custom field. The Edit Query String Parameter dialogue will open, then input your Query String Parameter.

To add a custom field, click on ‘Add’ fill in the name and  your Query string parameter, and then click on Add’.

To set custom field query string parameter in the page level:

Select the custom field and in the Form Field Settings tab assign the field type to [Query String]. Then toggle ON Pre-fill from Query String Parameter and add your Query String Parameter.

Assuming that you’ve already added custom field(s) in your autoresponder service, here is how to set that up in Convertri:

Adding Custom Fields To A Standard Form

  1. Click Form Elements in the Element Tray and select a Text Input element.

  1. In the text input’s Properties panel assign your placeholder text.

  1. Click  the Forms icon in the page editor’s top toolbar to open the Configure Form dialogue.

  1. Select your API Autoresponder. Make sure you’ve integrated the autoresponder prior to this step. If you haven’t already, you can find the autoresponder integration guide here
  2. Select the list you would like to add your prospects to, and then at Type click on the dropdown menu to locate the custom field(s) you set up in your autoresponder service . (To avoid confusion be sure to name your autoresponder custom field exactly the same as the custom field you created in Convertri.)

  1. Select the custom field name you created at account level, and click on Next to set up your thank you page URL.

  1. In the Page Editor click on your text input element and in the Properties panel click on the Form Field Settings tab. At Assigned Field Type use the dropdown menu to select the custom field you set up in the Configure Form dialogue - it will be in Bold (active) in the dropdown menu.

  1. Hit Save and Publish.

If you are using Zapier. Make sure you’ve integrated Zapier, click here for details. Then click on your form field and assign the custom field.

REMEMBER: You need to assign a custom field type to your custom field to capture custom data to your zaps.

Adding A Custom Field in the Form Widget

  1. Select the Form Widget from the Form Elements tray
