On March 18, 1881, ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’ debuted at Madison Square Garden in New York City.  P. T. Barnum and James Anthony Bailey’s travelling circus became renowned for their creative or ‘false’ advertising to patrons and the multiple hoaxes they played on their audiences. Barnum earned the title of ‘The Greatest Showman’, inspiring the 2017 musical film by the same name, featuring Hugh Jackman as the protagonist.
