Cloudflare’s Orange Cloud Differences

If you are using Cloudflare’s ‘Orange Cloud’ to proxy domains, then you should be aware that it will cause your domains to behave differently in Convertri.

Using the Orange Cloud in Cloudflare means that the domain in Convertri will always show up as ‘Not Configured’.

This isn't a problem!  Your pages can still be published and will work fine.  In the 'orange cloud' mode, Cloudflare works a bit differently to most registrars, which means your content isn't served directly from Convertri's servers to your visitors, which is why Convertri displays 'not configured'.

However when using the Orange Cloud, you should be be aware of two things:

  1. There will be a longer Time To Live (TTL) for any published changes, so any published changes that you make could take up to 2 hours to display.
  2. SSL will be set up in Cloudflare rather than Convertri.  Please see https://help.convertri.com/article/322-how-to-set-up-cloudflare for details.

You can use Cloudflare just as a normal DNS provider, in which case you'll get the same instant publishing and SSL as with any other registrar with Convertri, but you won't get Cloudflare's extra services.  In this case, use the 'grey cloud' in Cloudflare.  You'll then see Convertri read the domain as 'Active and Secure' as usual.
