When you add a button in Convertri, it’s important to set it to the mode you need in order for it to work properly. In this guide, you’ll learn about the various button modes, and when to use each one.

To add a button to your page:

  1. In the Page Builder, click on Form Inputs in the Elements Tray.
  2. Click or drag a Submit button onto your page.
  3. The Properties panel should open. If not, click on the Properties panel, and navigate to Button Settings. Click the Mode dropdown.

This button mode will submit a form. Use it whenever you have a form that isn’t a checkout and you need your button to send the entered data, e.g. a lead generating form, survey, or opt-in to a newsletter.

Think of it as a “Submit” button.

NOTE: You cannot have an action set to a button that you want to submit a purchase or form, as any "on click" action will override that function. If you want to set up an action as well, use the ‘on form submit’ event.

Open Checkout

Use this button mode to open the modal checkout and let the customer purchase the product you’ve linked to the page. Think of it as a “Buy Now” button.

You do not need to add a credit card input, name or any other fields when you use this mode: the button will open the checkout automatically.

Purchase

If  a button set to ‘Purchase’ mode is clicked AND a product has been attached to the page:

  1. ONLY the product attached to the page (and any selected bumps) will be purchased.
  2. Also, any items in the cart from previous pages are remembered but ignored for this purchase.

But, If a product has not been attached to the page

  1. Whatever products are in the cart will be purchased, along with any selected bump sells on the current page.
  2. If there are no products in the cart, the button should not do anything, just as in the current system if a ‘Purchase’ button is used with no product attached to the page.

NOTE: This will allow you to build a checkout page which can be used in a store - HOWEVER it will also open the possibility that your buyers could make purchases they are unaware of, if they have other items in their cart that they’ve forgotten about and there’s no ‘View Cart’ widget on the page.

Use this button mode when you don’t want to use the modal checkout, and have set up a purchase form on your page. Add a credit card input to your form if you need, but this mode will show options for all integrated payment processors, e.g. Paypal.

Link

This button mode turns the button into a plain ol’ hyperlink. Use it to navigate to another page, like a “Next” button for example, or as part of a menu. It will not submit any forms.

You can open your link to a new tab in two ways: on your button settings or on your button general properties. You don’t need to toggle ON both, just toggle ON ‘Open link in a new tab’ in either way, it’ll automatically force change the state of the toggle in the other setting.

Now when the button is clicked on the live page, the link will be opened in a new tab.

Download

When you choose this mode, you’ll be able to upload a file to the File Library for your readers to download. When they click the button, their download will start. Use this on a Thank You page, for example, to deliver lead magnets or bonus content.

Trigger

Choose this button mode when you want the button to trigger an action on your page. For example, you can use it to open a layer where you have an on-page purchase form, or opt-in. You’ll be able to easily click to add an Action and Event.

NOTE: You cannot have an action set to a button that you want to submit a purchase or form, as any "on click" action will override that function. If you want to set up an action as well, use the ‘on form submit’ event.

Add to Cart

When a buyer clicks this button on a page which has a product attached the product is added to the cart and the modal checkout is opened.  The cart is NOT cleared when this happens - if another product is already in the cart, both products show in the basket.

When a buyer clicks on this button on a page which does NOT have a product attached the checkout modal is opened but nothing is added. This will allow the button to also function as a “view basket” option.

Note: This button selection currently only works with the Store skin.
